One thing we all can agree upon is that there is no other car manufacturer in India who understands the market better than Maruti Suzuki. The automaker revolutionized the car market with many successful models. The company has been ruling the Indian car market for many years so far and, by the looks of it, will rule many years to come. Maruti Suzuki Swift took the Indian roads by storm and the new iteration carries the legacy forward. And the Swift Dzire had a world of its own and continued to rake in the moolah for Maruti Suzuki. Now, it’s time for the New Swift Dzire.
To look good has never been on the checklist of Swift Dzire. While the Swift is a great looking car, giving it a boot didn’t seem to be a good idea. Well, good or bad, the Swift Dzire made a bang with the boot and the new Swift Dzire looks better, but still you will not buy the car for its looks. The new Swift Dzire with the shorter boot (for bringing its length less than 4 meters) certainly carries off the design well into the rear. The tail lights look good and the integrated spoiler completes the rear styling. The front is the same one as the new Swift, with slight modifications to the front grille and bumper.
On the inside, things remain the same again as the new Swift except brighter. The interiors are given a dual-tone black- beige treatment with chrome and wood finish give a premium finish. On the whole, the new Swift Dzire is very different from the car it replaces.
As is the case with the new Swift, the new Swift Dzire has been updated for a more premium feeling. The interiors are more premium with the quality of the plastics used much better than the old one. The new waterfall themed center console with neat dashboard layout make for a happy setting. Materials used for the upholstery are of high quality and the wood-chrome accents all around gives a plush finish. To reduce the weight of the car, plastic fuel tank has been used in place of the conventional metal tank. Besides being 25-35% lighter than the metal tanks, the plastic fuel tanks are also durable, corrosion-free, non-explosive and easily recyclable.
Space and Comfort
Though being shorter than its predecessor, the new Swift Dzire has gotten more spacious, thanks to the longer wheelbase of the new Swift platform. The front seats are bigger and more comfortable and the longer wheelbase reflects in the amount of legroom, especially in the rear. Tilt Steering and driver seat height adjust, steering mounted audio controls and smoother gear shift make driving the Swift Dzire easier and happier. And to keep the passengers satisfied, there is stereo system with six speakers, AUX and USB support and automatic climate control system.
Powered by the same engines as the new Swift, the Swift Dzire Petrol is powered by 1.2L K-series petrol engine with VVT, with a maximum power of 87 PS at 6000 rpm and maximum torque of 114 Nm at 4000 rpm. The diesel Dzire is fitted with a 1.3L DDiS diesel engine that has a maximum power of 75 PS at 4000 rpm and torque of 190 Nm at 2000 rpm. While a 5-speed manual transmission is available for both the petrol and diesel variants, the car also gets a 4-speed automatic transmission in the VXi trim of the petrol Dzire. Both of the engines are the tested and proven ones and have kept up to the expectations, delivering both in power and economy.
Riding and Handling
While the suspension setup is the same as its hatchback cousin, the Swift Dzire’s suspension is tuned to be bit softer for comfort. The new gen rally based suspension system provides with a sporty handling and riding experience that adds more fun to the drive. The corners are easily conquered with razor sharp maneuvering responses from the steering wheel and wider tyres, but there’s a bit of bodyroll. The improved transmission setup helps in smoother gear shifts and better driving dynamics.
The older Swift Dzire is still doing good numbers on the monthly sales sheet and with the new Dzire, the numbers are only to get better.
